What the API key can and can’t do.
Trading permission only
The key only needs trading permission. Vectorhelm places and cancels orders, nothing else.
Trading only
Unified and classic
Both work, each with its own limits, so switching between them never changes your risk settings by surprise.
Own limits
Switch it off any time
Delete the key on Bybit and trading stops immediately.
Your control

Two things to know before you connect Bybit: your account type, and Bybit’s strict clock.
Unified vs classic
A Unified Trading Account shares collateral across products; a classic account keeps them separate. The same strategy sizes differently on each, so check your account type before you go live.
Account type
The 5-second timestamp window
Bybit rejects a request whose timestamp is more than about five seconds off its server clock. It shows up as retCode 10004, which looks like a signature error — but it’s clock drift, not your credentials.
retCode 10004
The 20-second heartbeat
Bybit closes an idle connection after about twenty seconds without a ping. A connection that drops and reconnects is normal; one that doesn’t reconnect pauses the strategy.

Perps carry funding
Funding on perpetuals is charged regularly, and it’s a real cost. It’s included in your P&L, because a result without funding isn’t your real result.
