How the MT5 connection works.

  • A connector, not an API key

MT5 has no API key, so you install the Vectorhelm Connector EA in your terminal and pair it with a code. It’s not a robot you have to program — it just links your terminal to Vectorhelm. The terminal needs to stay running, on your computer or a VPS. MT5 hosting by Vectorhelm is coming soon, so you won’t need your own VPS.

    Your terminal

  • No credentials change hands

The connector pairs with a code you create. Vectorhelm never sees your MT5 login or password, and only places and cancels the orders your strategies make.

    Pairing code

  • Funded and challenge accounts

Prop accounts work the same way. Set your limits below the firm’s, so new trades stop before you reach the firm’s rule.

    Prop-ready

  • One terminal, one account

Each terminal is its own account with its own limits, so a challenge account and a live one never share a limit.

    Isolated

  • When the terminal goes down

Your stop-losses and take-profits sit at the broker, so they keep working if the terminal disconnects. Your Vectorhelm limits can’t act while it’s offline — you’re notified the moment it drops.

Where MT5 brokers differ.

MT5 works the same everywhere. Each broker’s symbols and order rules don’t — and that’s where automation usually breaks.

  • Symbols come from your account

The same pair is EURUSD at one broker and EURUSD.raw at another. You don’t type symbol names: the connector lists what your account actually trades, and you pick from that list.

    From your account

  • Volume steps and minimums

Minimum volume, maximum volume and step size are set per symbol and per broker. An order between two steps is rejected — which is why a size that works on one account can fail on another.

    Per symbol

  • Hedging accounts only

A netting account merges every order into one position per symbol, so strategies can’t be kept apart. Vectorhelm needs a hedging account. Most MT5 brokers offer both, so check yours first.

    Required

  • Stop and freeze levels

Brokers set a minimum distance for stops from the current price, and a band where orders can’t be changed. A stop inside either is refused by the broker, not by us.
